If you couldn’t already tell, I’m a mega fan of Bloons TD games, especially Bloons TD 6.

In more recent days, when I felt like I’ve become “an expect” at Bloons TD 6, covering all the best upgrade paths for Towers, I decided to go backwards to fully understand how Towers worked in Bloons TD 5 and why certain Towers were improved or broken up among different Towers, such as the Apprentice Monkey becoming the Wizard Monkey and Druid.

Honestly, I find Bloons TD 5 to be more difficult than Bloons TD 6 and I can’t tell if it’s just because I jumped into the difficult game modes too soon without purchasing upgrades or if the grind is actually just meant to be slower in BTD5 than it is in BTD6.

I can whole heartedly say that I’ve come to a point in BTD5 where I feel comfortable with most of the game modes and quite frankly feel equipped enough to give some basic tips that should help players get through the majority of game modes and challenges.

I can’t say that I prefer BTD5, however, I can say that there are a few mechanics in BTD5 that I wish carried over into BTD6.

My biggest appreciation for BTD5 is the fact that Towers can be upgraded with seemingly “more capabilities” due to the fact that instead of having 3 different paths to cross path, players will only have 2.

This makes it a lot easier to decide which Towers to place and which cross paths are more useful.

The best part of this is the fact that players can upgrade multiple Towers to their “top tier” essentially making it easier to win the game as multiple Towers can be the strongest they can be.

So let’s get started and chat about all of the Towers players can place in BTD5 and what each Tower is best for.

DART MONKEY

HOW TO UNLOCK

The Dart Monkey is immediately useable as it it unlocked from rank 1.

RANGE

The Dart Monkey has a Small range.

PIERCE

The Dart Monkey has the base pierce of 1.

DAMAGE

The Dart Monkey has the base damage of 1.

CAMO DETECTION

The Dart Monkey does not initially have Camo detection, however, can be upgraded using (2/-) in order to obtain Camo detection.

ATTACK SPEED

The Dart Monkey has Medium attack speed.

RANK REQUIRED FOR FINAL UPGRADE

The Dart Monkey requires a player to acquire rank 21 before players are able to fully upgrade it with both of its final upgrades.

SPECIAL ABILITY

The Dart Monkey is able to acquire a single Special Ability, being Super Monkey Fan Club.

SPECIALTY BUILDING

If players would like to upgrade the Dart Monkey using their coins they can do so by upgrading the Dart Training Facility.

HOTKEY

The Tack Shooter can be placed quickly by using the letter “Q”.

All BTD5 Towers & Strategy - Basically Average (1)

PATH 1 DART MONKEY

The Path 1 Dart Monkey excels at popping bloons in a straight line and will provide the Dart Monkey with Camo detection as well as the ability to shred through Lead Bloons.

It is by far the more “powerful” option of Dart Monkey, though due to the way that it damages bloons it has a higher chance of allowing bloons to leak.

Players will often want to place a Path 1 Dart Monkey on a straight Path to ensure that it damages the most bloons it can at a time and will require placement close to the beginning of a track as later placement may simply prove to be useless.

I personally do not place a lot of Path 1 Dart Monkeys as I find them most useful for dealing with Ceramic Bloons, but extremely weak at dealing with MOAB-class bloons, making me want to use other Towers instead as I find MOAB-class bloons more difficult and problematic to deal with.

I will say though, if you want something to thin out bloons and you’re struggling with regular bloons, this is a massively useful upgrade path to use, especially if your track does not have many winds in it.

ABOUT LONG RANGE DARTS

The Long Range Darts upgrade provides the Dart Monkey with the ability to shoot darts further than usual.

In BTD5, the Long Range Darts upgrade will provide the Dart Monkey with a 25% range boost, effectively bringing it’s range from 200 pixels to 250 pixels.

The Long Range Darts upgrade can be useful for covering more track, especially if players want to place the Dart Monkey in an area where it can target bloons that are near the beginning and further down the line.

I would strongly recommend always anticipating providing a Dart Monkey with Long Range Darts in order to place it more central on a map, as anticipating a larger attack range will allow a player to prepare for later waves instead of having a Dart Monkey that has a range that is just shy of a prime location on the map.

In many cases, Long Range Darts is not the first upgrade players will want to provide their Dart Monkey as it does not increase the amount of damage the Dart Monkey deals, though if placed on a map with winding roads, this may be the upgrade for you.

ENHANCED EYESIGHT

EASY

MEDIUM

HARD

$130

IMPOPPABLE

$145

ABOUT ENHANCED EYESIGHT

Upon upgrading to Enhanced Eyesight, Dart Monkeys will gain the ability to detect Camo Bloons and will also gain an increase in attack range by an additional 30%.

This essentially means that with the previous tier of upgrades, Long Range Darts, the Dart Monkey will have a total of 50% increased attack range.

Similar to the message above, players will want to anticipate this upgrade as providing Dart Monkeys with Camo detection makes them very useful, especially due to the cost being so low for this specific Tower.

I would strongly suggest waiting for this upgrade until the player is about to deal with Camo Bloons unless a player is trying to quickly upgrade to Spike-O-Pult as the increase in attack range is only useful if a player is on a map with multiple winding roads.

As the Enhanced Eyesight upgrade does not provide a player with more damage, this can allow bloons to leak, again unless the Dart Monkey gains visibility of a part of the track they did not originally have access to.

SPIKE-O-PULT

EASY

$425

MEDIUM

HARD

IMPOPPABLE

ABOUT SPIKE-O-PULT

Upon upgrading to the Spike-O-Pult, Dart Monkeys will acquire a new type of projectile, being a large spiked ball that has a higher amount of pierce, however will be flung at a slower rate.

Each spiked ball will be able to damage 18 bloons, being the best on a straight path as this can guarantee the devastation of more bloons.

Players are recommended to place Spike-O-Pults on “Last” targeting as this will help guarantee that it throws spiked balls in a straight line, though this will depend on where the Dart Monkey is placed.

If the Dart Monkey is placed closer to the beginning of a map and is meant to hit bloons that pass it, then “First” targeting is more useful, though if the Dart Monkey is placed further down the line and is meant to catch bloons as the begin to leak, then “Last” targeting is more useful.

The same can be said about the Juggernaut upgrade, which I will cover shortly.

JUGGERNAUT

EASY

MEDIUM

$1,500

HARD

$1,620

IMPOPPABLE

$1,800

ABOUT JUGGERNAUT

The Juggernaut upgrade is one of the most useful upgrades players can provide a Dart Monkey as it will gain the ability to shred through both Frozen Bloons and Lead Bloons.

The Juggernaut has a very impressive pierce, being able to pop up to 100 bloons at a time.

Although the Juggernaut will only shred through 1 layer of regular bloons, it will be able to deal 5 damage to Ceramic Bloons.

Finally, the Juggernaut will gain a small increase in attack range, allowing it to catch more bloons than it previously was able to.

The Juggernaut is a great Tower to have in the early game as it provides players with the cheapest form of Camo Lead Bloon popping, though if players are simply looking to pop Lead Bloons they can place a Bomb Shooter instead.

All BTD5 Towers & Strategy - Basically Average (2)

PATH 2 DART MONKEY

Path 2 Dart Monkeys are my preferred choice in upgrade as they can both deal AoE damage and can be activated in order to deal massive amounts of damage to MOAB-class bloons.

The special ability that Path 2 provides is quite exceptional and can provide players with some of the best support in the game, essentially acting as an “oh sh*t” button that can be used before bloons begin to leak.

It should be noted that as useful as the special ability is to quickly destroy bloons, the ability is unable to affect certain types of bloons, such as Lead Bloons and Frozen Bloons as they deflect sharp damage.

If you choose to go down the Path 2 route, I strongly recommend upgrading a number of Dart Monkeys with Path 2 to ensure that players have enough access to the special abilities due to it’s fairly long cooldown.

In general, Path 2 Dart Monkeys are impactful due to their fast attack speed and AoE and players will be happy to note that they will not need to place the Path 2 Dart Monkeys in a specific location in order to benefit the most from them.

ABOUT SHARP SHOTS

Sharp Shots is a fairly simple and underwhelming upgrade to have on it’s own as it’s major benefit is the ability to gain an extra point of pierce.

Upon upgrading the Dart Monkey with Sharp Shots, the Dart Monkey will be able to pop 2 bloons using a single dart.

The Sharp Shots upgrade can be useful for thinning out bloons, especially if players don’t have many Towers out yet, however, it will not provide the player with enough defences to get through many waves before needing to be upgraded again.

ABOUT RAZOR SHARP DARTS

The Razor Sharp Darts upgrade will provide Dart Monkeys with the ability of being able to pierce through 4 bloons at a time instead of 2.

ABOUT TRIPLE DARTS

The Triple Darts upgrade is a great upgrade for players to acquire as it will allow the Dart Monkey to be able to throw 3 darts instead of 1.

While not overpowered, the Triple Darts upgrade can really help improve the amount of damage a Dart Monkey can push out, especially in the early rounds.

Dart Monkeys will be able to pop a maximum of 12 bloons at a time, essentially being able to pop 4 bloons per dart.

SUPER MONKEY FAN CLUB

MEDIUM

$8,000

IMPOPPABLE

$9,600

ABOUT SUPER MONKEY FAN CLUB

The Super Monkey Fan Club is one of the strongest abilities in the game players can acquire and will transform a maximum of 10 nearby Dart Monkeys into Super Monkeys for 15 seconds, allowing them to shoot rapidly.

The Super Monkey Fan Club is the most useful when players are trying to destroy MOAB-class bloons, though it has a fairly long cool down, being 50 seconds.

I will say, it’s extremely important to place all 10 Dart Monkeys to gain the most out of this special ability, though in earlier rounds with a few MOAB-class bloons, players will still have a good chance of succeeding even with less Dart Monkeys.

It’s important to note that the Super Monkey Fan Club has a 50 second cool down, meaning that players may want to upgrade a few Dart Monkeys to this tier to make sure it is always accessible.

As a side note, on the earlier versions of BTD5, Spike-O-Pults weren’t able to transform into Super Monkeys, though that is no longer true and they will be affected in the newer editions.

TACK SHOOTER

All BTD5 Towers & Strategy - Basically Average (3)

PATH 1 TACK SHOOTER

Path 1 Tack Shooters are great due to their impeccable attack speed, especially when placed in tandem with a Bloonchipper that will bring bloons back for a second pounding.

Path 1 Tack Shooters are perfect for dealing with clumps of Lead Bloons and can be empowered by placing a Monkey Village with Monkey Intelligence Bureau (-/3) nearby, or simply Radar Scanner (-/2) to deal with Camo Bloons.

In my opinion, a Path 1 Tack Shooter is a necessity, especially for newer players who are struggling with leaking lower-tier bloons.

ABOUT TACK SPRAYER

The Tack Sprayer has less space in between it’s tacks.

RING OF FIRE

EASY

$2,125

MEDIUM

$2,500

HARD

$2,700

IMPOPPABLE

$3,000

ABOUT RING OF FIRE

The Ring of Fire upgrade is by far my favourite upgrade to provide the Tack Shooter as it will be able to fire in a full solid ring surrounding the tower, popping a single layer of bloons, though at a much faster speed than it previously could.

It should be noted that a Ring of Fire Tack Shooter will only be able to pop 60 bloons per shot, though this isn’t usually an issue as it’s rapid attack speed really helps balance this out.

The greatest advantage of using a Ring of Fire Tack Shooter is that it will be able to shred through Lead Bloons and Frozen Bloons and can even provide a great amount of support when dealing with Ceramic Bloons.

The only bloons players will not be able to target when using a Tack Shooter are Camo Bloons, though players can easily remedy this by placing a Monkey Village with Radar Scanner (-/2)

Ring of Fire Tack Shooter also struggle with destroying MOAB-class bloons though when placed next to a Bloonchipper will become one of the best pairings in the game.

All BTD5 Towers & Strategy - Basically Average (4)

PATH 2 TACK SHOOTER

As powerful as a Path 2 Tack Shooter is, I personally don’t use them very often simply because there are other Towers and strategies I find more in line with my play style.

The most notable thing about the Path 2 Tack Shooter is the fact that it comes with a special ability that players can activate in order to provide some extra support against leaking bloons.

Quite frankly, I can really see the appeal of the Blade Maelstrom special ability, though to me, it’s not the most useful unless upgraded with a Monkey Village with Monkey Intelligence Bureau (-/2).

ABOUT EXTRA RANGE TACKS

Upon upgrading a Tack Shooter with Long Range Tacks, the Tack Shooter will gain a small upgrade in range, going from 144 pixels to 165.

The Extra Range Tacks isn’t an upgrade that is useful on it’s own as players will not usually be able to catch more bloons with it’s increased range, simply because of the sheer amount of space between tacks.

Players will usually want to use the Long Range Tacks upgrade if they are hoping to upgrade Path 1 further.

It should be noted that the Blade Shooter has 3 pierce.

HARD

$2,915

IMPOPPABLE

ABOUT BLADE MAELSTROM

Upon upgrading a Tack Shooter with Blade Maelstrom the Tack Shooter will gain a special ability that players can activate.

Once activated Blade Maelstrom will shoot two streams of blade that spiral outwards, shredding all bloons it comes into contact with.

Amazingly, Blade Maelstrom has a relatively low cool down, only coming in at 20 seconds and most notably the ability will have unlimited pierce, essentially meaning that if bloons are weak enough, players will be able to clear them all so they can focus on more important bloons.

Unfortunately the Blade Maelstrom special ability isn’t great when used against Regenerating Bloons as they will often grow even while the ability is active.

Players are going to want to place the Blade Maelstrom so it can go against the grain, essentially meaning that if the ability is forced to chase bloons, players may actually lose DPS simply because the Blades never actually reach bloons in time.

Players should also note that the Blade Maelstrom ability will not be able to shred through Lead Bloons, unless placed next to a Monkey Intelligence Bureau (-/3).

PATH 1 SNIPER MONKEY

The Path 1 Sniper Monkey is by far the strongest upgrade path players can select when choosing which path to choose.

Path 1 Sniper Monkeys attack relatively slowly, though they can shred through multiple layers of bloons per each shot fired.

Path 1 Sniper Monkeys are best when on “Strong” targeting as this can help players either stun MOAB-class bloons or shatter Ceramic Bloons which can also be a problem for players to deal with.

Players will want to keep their hand on the Path 1 Sniper Monkey to change it’s targeting to ensure that no bloons leak, though with enough other Towers dealing lower tier bloons this may not actually be necessary.

Players may need to place multiples of these Towers in order to deal with all the Ceramic Bloons that spawn, but either way these Towers are great at making sure that not many children bloons spawn.

Most notably, the Deadly Precision Sniper can ensure that any MOAB-class bloons it destroys spawns Blue Bloons instead of Ceramic Bloons, making it quite effective at ensuring the other Towers are not overwhelmed.

PATH 2 SNIPER MONKEY

The Path 2 Sniper Monkey is more of a support type of Tower as it will provide players with a healthy amount of cash, helping to fund other Towers and can be used to raise enough funds to place more money making Towers such as the Banana Farm.

While the Path 2 Sniper Monkey doesn’t deal as much damage as a Path 1 Sniper Monkey, it does have some increased attack speed, essentially meaning that the Path 2 Sniper Monkey will be able to damage bloons quickly.

Unlike the Path 1 Sniper Monkey, players can leave the Path 2 Sniper Monkey on “First” targeting to clear bloons before they leak.

I can’t lie and say that I place the Path 2 Sniper Monkey often, simply because Path 1 is much stronger and useful especially for it’s ability to stun MOAB-class bloons.

PATH 1 BOOMERANG THROWER

The Path 1 Boomerang Thrower is by far my favourite type of Boomerang Thrower a player can place as players can passively leave a Path 1 Boomerang Thrower and still deal damage to a plethora of bloons.

The Path 1 Boomerang Thrower can shred through more bloons and once and has the added bonus of having Camo detection on it’s orbital glaives, essentially meaning that players can rely on the Boomerang Thrower to clear bloons before they leak.

The Path 1 Boomerang Thrower deals a great deal of damage generally and is one of the most reliable damage dealers, especially as in the later upgrades, it will throw glaives that ricochet from one bloon to another.

ABOUT GLAIVE RICOCHET

Upon upgrading a Boomerang Thrower with Glaive Ricochet the Boomerang Thrower will be able to pop 100 bloons at a time.

The nice thing about the Glaive Ricochet is that the Glaives it throws will bounce from bloon to bloon as long as bloons are close together.

The Glaive Ricochet upgrade is perfect for clearing through weaker bloons as it is possible to guarantee that all weaker bloons are destroyed, unlike with other towers that have shorter range or do not allow projectiles to bounce between targets.

Unfortunately the Glaive Ricochet upgrade can only allow the glaives to affect a bloon once meaning that the glaive will always move forward instead of bounce back and forth between two bloons.

Players are either recommended to place a Boomerang Thrower where they can attack in multiple places or to simply place multiple Boomerang Thrower with Glaive Ricochet as it is such a powerful upgrade.

Ultimately the Glaive Lord works as both a Boomerang Thrower as well as a pseudo Tack Shooter.

PATH 2 BOOMERANG THROWER

The Path 2 Boomerang Thrower has great popping capabilities, being able to shred through almost all types of bloons, though not being able to pop through Camo Bloons unless given Camo detection using a Monkey Village with Radar Scanner (-/2).

Players will rejoice in how useful the special ability is as the increase in attack speed should make it possible to ensure that no bloons leak when players are being swamped by children bloons.

The Path 2 Ninja Monkey focusses less on damage and acts more like a support Tower, being able to throw bombs that stun bloons and will be able to shred both Lead Bloons and Camo Lead Bloons.

The nicest thing about the Path 2 Ninja Monkey is that it comes with a special ability that allows players to slow down bloons as they spawn in hopes of being able to damage bloons efficiently before they leak.

The special ability the Path 2 Ninja Monkey obtains will affect both MOAB-class bloons as well as regular bloons, making it essential for players who are hoping to complete a good amount of Freeplay.

PATH 2 BOMB TOWER

The Path 2 Bomb Tower is focussed towards MOAB-class bloons and will provide a substantial amount of support and damage to a player.

In my opinion, the Path 2 Bomb Tower is the most necessary to place in most circ*mstances as the lower tier upgrade will both provide support against MOAB-class bloons and the highest tier will provide substantial support.

The Path 2 Bomb Tower may be weaker against lower-tier bloons though players can use Path 1 Bomb Towers to clear these bloons or other rapid damage dealing Towers as they are not usually as bit of an issue realistically.

The MOAB Mauler doesn’t deal much damage to lower tier bloons, though it will deal 10x extra damage to MOAB-class bloons, making it ridiculously useful when players do not have any other Towers focussed on MOAB shredding or are in Boss Battles.

MOAB Maulers are considered to be essential Towers to place on most maps, especially as players will often only need a single MOAB Mauler to deal with the majority of MOAB-class bloons.

Players will always want to ensure that their MOAB Mauler is set to “Strong” targeting as the damage would be considered wasted on the smaller bloons due to the fact that damage is not multiplied.

Players will be happy to note that due to the fact that a MOAB Mauler has Frag Bombs,

ABOUT MOAB ASSASSIN

Upon upgrading a Bomb Tower with MOAB Assassin, the Bomb Tower will gain a special ability that deals damage specifically to MOAB-class bloons.

The MOAB Assassin special ability is quite a strong ability for players to use as it will deal 700 damage to a MOAB-class bloon, being able to destroy some MOABs completely, though providing a good amount of support to MOABs that aren’t completely shredded.

The MOAB Assassin ability will target the highest priority bloon globally on the map, meaning that a player has “no bad time to use it.”

Affected MOAB-class bloons will become stunned for a short period of time in order for players to continue to damage the MOAB-class bloon in case it is not completely destroyed by the ability.

The nice thing about the MOAB Assassin ability is that it can also deal 3 damage to children bloons, meaning that players will have a bit of extra support with bloons once they start spawning.

By far the MOAB Assassin is the strongest MOAB tower to place and can help with most Boss Battles though realistically they may be too expensive for players to afford in these moments.

PATH 1 ICE TOWER

The Path 1 Ice Tower is usually the better choice of Ice Tower as it will provide players with the ability to freeze more bloons, especially as the top tier upgrade will cause frozen bloons to freeze other bloons.

A Path 1 Ice Tower will essentially provide players with the most support when trying to slow down bloons and break them apart so they have a better chance at succeeding in a level.

Players can essentially place a Monkey Village with Monkey Intelligence Bureau (-/3) in order to allow Ice Towers to be able. to damage all types of bloons, excluding MOAB-class bloons.

This comes in extra handy when players need to space out all bloon types in order to secure as much damage as they can.

Players may want to pair up an Ice Tower with a Tack Shooter to deal as much damage as they can with this Tower, especially due to the rapid fire players can deal with a Path 1 Tack Shooter.

Players will not want to pair any other Tack Shooter with the Ice Tower as this may actually lower the DPS a player can deal.

Viral Frost also spreads the freezing among bloons that are nearby, though players will not benefit from the Snap Freeze if they use Viral Frost, which isn’t really an issue if players have enough Towers to support them in damage.

Players will want to place a Boomerang Thrower to help support the Viral Frost Ice Tower as they deal the most rapid damage and will be able to catch lots of bloons as they begin to flood.

Make sure you get the Sonic Boom upgrade or the Boomerang Thrower will not be able to damage Frozen Bloons.

PATH 2 ICE TOWER

Path 2 Ice Towers are great options for players who need an “oh sh*t” button and need to defend themselves before bloons leak.

Path 2 will provide players with more damage, though realistically the biggest benefit is the special ability.

Unfortunately, while Path 2 Ice Towers deal some damage, it is not enough to use as a solo Tower and will heavily need to rely on Towers with the ability to shred through Frozen Bloons to deal the most damage.

Players will want to place multiple Towers near the Ice Tower in order to pop frozen bloons to deal more damage as this will raise the amount of damage the Frozen Bloons deal to other bloons.

The Bloon Liquefier upgrade is the best way for players to deal with non-MOAB-class bloons, meaning that players can rely on this Tower to deal with Ceramic Bloons.

Unfortunately, without the use of a Monkey Village, the Bloon Liquefier does not have Camo detection, so I would strongly recommend having a Monkey Village with Radar Scanner (-/2) to ensure that you have the most support from this Tower.

Players will want to make sure that these Towers are placed closer to the beginning of a map to make the most of its damage.

PATH 2 GLUE GUNNER

I truthfully rarely place a Path 2 Glue Gunner as it’s main use is the special ability that places glue on all bloons on screen, except MOAB-class bloons.

The Path 2 Glue Gunner is most useful when players also have Corrosive Glue cross pathed as they can essentially ensure that bloons are destroyed before they leak, though in reality I would rather save my money for high damage Towers.

Unfortunately the Glue Hose isn’t the most useful in late game, due to the player being swamped by MOAB-class bloons, however if a player is still struggling with lower-tier bloons, this may be the upgrade for you.

ABOUT GLUE STRIKER

HOTKEY

The Tack Shooter can be placed quickly by using the letter “D”.

PATH 1 MONKEY BUCCANEER

The Path 1 Monkey Buccaneer is by far the best upgrade path players can choose and while expensive, I will say that it completely makes sense since the Path 1 Monkey Buccaneer actually provides a player with global auto targeting damage that should greatly reduce the threat of bloons leaking, though unfortunately there will be some cases where bloons will leak simply because there are not enough planes.

If players have enough space to place multiple Monkey Buccaneers they should upgrade a few to Path 1 tier-4 as this will provide a player with a massive amount of support.

PATH 2 MONKEY BUCCANEER

The Path 2 Monkey Buccaneer is a good choice for players who are struggling to deal with Lead Bloons and for players who need an “oh sh*t!” button when it comes to MOAB-class bloons.

In my opinion a Path 2 Monkey Buccaneer is not the most powerful upgrade players can choose, however, it can be extremely useful in certain situations, especially when it comes to dealing with Lead Bloons.

Players can place a number of Path 2 Monkey Buccaneers in order to use the special ability multiple times through a round, though I would still recommend a few Path 1 Monkey Buccaneers instead if a player has the money.

ABOUT GRAPE SHOT

Upon upgrading a Monkey Buccaneer with Grape Shot, the Monkey Buccaneer will begin shooting grape projectiles that can pop 2 bloons at once.

The Grape Shot upgrade is quite an important one as it provides the Monkey Buccaneer with an ample amount of damage support as it will shoot a total of 4 grapes in a cone shape that shoots out in a cone shape and should annihilate bloons early on in the game.

The Grape Shot upgrade is the best for dealing with spaced out bloons and quite frankly is always the first upgrade I give a Monkey Buccaneer.

Players will want to change their Monkey Buccaneer targeting mode to “Close” as this will greatly increase the amount of damage the Monkey Buccaneer will do.

ABOUT MONKEY PIRATES

Upon upgrading a Monkey Buccaneer with Monkey Pirates the Monkey Buccaneer will gain an ability that allows players to pull down a MOAB-class bloon straight from the sky.

While not always the best, simply because of it’s cool down, the Monkey Pirates upgrade can be extremely useful for ridding a MOAB-class bloon in extreme circ*mstances where MOABs are about to leak.

In my opinion, the Monkey Pirates upgrade is better in early game, simply because players should be able to acquire good MOAB-class defences by mid-to-late game.

HOTKEY

PATH 1 MONKEY ACE

The Path 1 Monkey Ace is a very strong Tower as it can be used to auto target bloons and destroy them before they devastate a player.

I personally like the Path 1 Monkey Ace the best, though admittedly it is such an expensive Tower to place, though realistically it is worth it for the sheer amount of damage output that players can acquire with this tier.

Unfortunately, the biggest downfall of the Path 1 Monkey Ace is that it does not allow players to select what targeting method players would rather and thus will only shoot bloons that it is close to first.

ABOUT SPECTRE

Upon upgrading a Monkey Ace with Spectre, the Monkey Ace will become substantially more powerful, now being able to shoot out continuous fire bombs that will be able to pop both Lead Bloons and Black Bloons.

The Spectre is great at dealing damage to MOAB-class bloons and will provide players with a substantial amount of support, especially if they already have some good defences in other Towers.

Unfortunately players will not be able to change the targeting of the Spectre as it will always shoot the closest bloons, though due to the sheer devastation the Spectre causes this shouldn’t be an issue.

PATH 2 MONKEY ACE

The Path 2 Monkey Ace is not optimal in my opinion, though I can’t knock how helpful having one on your map is as players will be able to clear their screen of bloons and also deal some damage to MOAB-class bloons.

My main reasoning for disliking a Path 2 Monkey Ace is that it doesn’t have an ideal way of shredding through bloons (ie. auto targeting) and thus can be a hinderance in early game.

Realistically I like the changes to the Path 2 Monkey Ace they made in BTD6 and found it a bit jarring going back into BTD5 as they are far less optimal.

The Ground Zero special ability is quite useful to have especially if players have a number of towers set to strong and thus miss out on dealing damage to lower-tier bloons.

HOTKEY

PATH 1 SUPER MONKEY

By far the best Super Monkey any player can place is the Path 1 Super Monkey as it can be upgraded into a super Tower by swallowing other Towers.

Players will want to make sure that when they upgrade the Path 1 Super Monkey that they have enough upgraded Towers around the Super Monkey as upgrading a lower-tier Path 1 Super Monkey is by far a lot less powerful than the tier-5 Super Monkey.

Players will want to ensure that they have enough Banana Farms to fund the Super Monkey as again, it is going to be much too expensive to fund without any Banana Farms.

If players are playing on Impoppable difficulty, this is the best Tower to place.

Laser Blasts will gain the ability to destroy Frozen Bloons, however, they lose the ability to shred through Purple Bloons.

As useful as Laser Blasts is, I would strongly recommend ensuring that you have multiple Towers to deal with Purple Bloons before upgrading as Purple Bloons tend to leak if players are not careful.

Unfortunately the Plasma Blasts Super Monkey isn’t as good against MOAB-class bloons because it doesn’t deal 2x the damage, though this isn’t an issue if players have enough Towers to deal with MOAB-class bloons.

ABOUT TEMPLE OF THE MONKEY GOD

Upon upgrading a Super Monkey with Temple of the Money God the Super Monkey will sacrifice all Towers in it’s area, meaning that players can essentially lose all of their Towers and thus suffer from bloons leaking by mistake.

The Temple of the Monkey God gains Camo detection, being the only organic way a Super Monkey gets Camo detection.

The neat thing about the Temple of the Monkey God is that it gains different tiers of abilities based on how much sacrificed.

The following are the cost values players will have to hit in order to reach each tier of the Temple of Monkey God:

TIER 1

$1,500

TIER 2

$4,500

TIER 3

$10,000

TIER 4

$30,000

Players will have to make sacrifices for each type of Tower in the game, including Monkey Apprentices, Ice Towers, Bomb Towers, Mortar Towers and Glue Gunners. Monkey Villages are also a great choice.

The following are the upgrades players receive based on the sacrificed Towers:

BOMB TOWER

The Temple of the Monkey God reloads every 1 second and fires 1/2/3/6 missiles that act like MOAB Maulers.

ICE TOWER

The Temple of the Monkey God reloads every 2 seconds and freezes bloons for 1.5/2/2.5 seconds upon contact.

The Temple of the Monkey God has 1,000 pierce and adds the Arctic Wind effect if upgraded to tier-4.

APPRENTICE MONKEY

The Temple of the Monkey God reloads every 1.25 seconds, tier 2 and 3 Temple of the Monkey Gods will do 1 layer before blowing and tier 4 will do 2.

The Temple of the Monkey God has 60/90/120/150 pierce based on tiers.

GLUE GUNNER

The Temple of the Monkey God will reload every 0.5 second and will pop bloons with glue every 2/1/0.5 seconds.

Unfortunately the tier-1 Temple of the Monkey God does not have corroding glue.

OTHER TOWERS

The Temple of the Monkey God reloads every 0.8 seconds.

Tier 1 and 2 Temple of the Monkey Gods will have darts and Tier 3 and 4 Temple of the Monkey Gods will have blades.

The Temple of the Monkey God will have a pierce of 20/30/40/40 and will do 2/3/4/5 damage.

If upgraded to the final tier, players can also use the Temple of the Monkey God to deal damage to Lead Bloons.

PATH 2 SUPER MONKEY

The Path 2 Super Monkey is also a powerful Super Monkey, though it is not nearly as powerful as Path 1.

Path 2 Super Monkeys can still shred through a number of bloons and are, in my opinion, better Towers to place early on simply because it deals massive amounts of damage to bloons, especially when players do not have the funds to fuel a Path 1 Super Monkey.

Players will want to place a Path 2 Super Monkey if they want to completely clear a map from lower-tier bloons and also deal some epic damage to MOAB-class bloons, although they will not be able to completely destroy BFBs or ZOMGs.

PATH 1 MONKEY APPRENTICE

The Path 1 Monkey Apprentice comes with a substantial amount of damage that can affect bloons across the map and will also be able to blow bloons back once they have leaked.

The Path 1 Monkey Apprentice works best when it is placed further back in a track as the blowback is really what a player will benefit from in order to ensure that no bloons leak.

Shockingly, the Path 1 Monkey Apprentice will also be able to blow back Ceramic Bloons, making it one of the strongest Towers for players to place.

Unfortunately, the Path 1 Monkey Apprentice does not deal a good enough amount of damage in comparison to Path 2 so players may not want to place multiple Path 1 Monkey Apprentices unless they want to ensure that more bloons are pushed back.

I personally like to upgrade Lightning Bolt as early as possible due to its overwhelming ability to pop bloons all over the map.

Most notably the Lightning Bolt upgrade provides players with the ability to shred through Lead Bloons, meaning that these powerful attacks can be used in earlier rounds in order to both deal AoE damage and heavy damage.

Unfortunately as the Lightning Bolt attack only shreds one layer of bloons, players will still need to rely on damage from other Towers in order to do the most with this Tower, but this shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

These bloons may become more powerful, leading to the demise of a player, which can feel quite silly, especially if the regrowth bloons weren’t that strong to begin with.

ABOUT TEMPEST TORNADO

Similarly, I would recommend not placing these Towers too close to a beginning of a track as this may cause regrow bloons to become too strong to destroy completely.

PATH 2 MONKEY APPRENTICE

The Path 2 Monkey Apprentice is by far the more powerful Apprentice Monkey to place in terms of sheer DPS.

The Path 2 Monkey Apprentice deals rapid fire damage, being able to shred through MOAB-class bloons fairly efficiently and also being able to destroy Ceramic Bloons impeccably.

The Path 2 Monkey Apprentice comes with a special ability that players can activate in order to receive a global attack that will shred through bloons before they leak.

ABOUT MONKEY INTELLIGENCE BUREAU

Upon upgrading a Monkey Village with Monkey Intelligence Bureau the Monkey Village will allow any Tower to deal damage to any type of bloon.

While this might be confusing as to why a player would need Monkey Intelligence Bureau, it’s simple to say that Towers that deal explosive damage can now shred Black Bloons and Zebra Bloons and Towers that deal energy based damage will be able to shred through Purple Bloons.

This will ensure that all bloons are always taking damage, essentially raising the amount of damage all Towers output.

While seemingly useless, this can come in extra helpful if players are uncertain of what bloons have protection or simply want to make sure that all bloons get shredded as soon as possible.

PATH 1 BANANA FARM

A Path 1 Banana Farm is by far the more common type of Banana Farm players place as it will regularly provide players with an income, though it does not provide as much money as is more costly than Path 2.

Players will often want at least one Path 1 Banana Farm in order to fund their upgrades throughout the round and then will want to place multiple Path 2 Banana Farms which I will cover shortly.

PATH 2 BANANA FARM

The Path 2 Banana Farm is by far the more powerful type of Banana Farm, though it does come with the downfall of requiring players to hoard their money for a few rounds before they take out their investments.

The Banana Farm will provide a small amount of money each round, however, players will collect interest on the money they have inside of their bank account, essentially being able to collect money faster.

The bad thing about only having Path 2 Banana Farms is that players will not be able to upgrade Towers regularly through rounds and instead will have to wait until they have capped out their banks to ensure that they make as much interest as they can.

I would recommend placing 1 Path 1 Banana Farm before placing a number of Path 2 Banana Farms. They come in handy, but you will still need some extra income per round just in case you need to upgrade some Towers.

The only other time a player would want to upgrade to Valuable Bananas before acquiring tier-4 on Path 1 is when they are hoping for a Path 2 tier-4 Banana Farm.

In these cases it is still more wise to upgrade using Path 1 first to tier-2 then Path 2 to tier-4.

PATH 1 MORTAR TOWER

A Path 1 Mortar Tower is one of the strongest Towers players can place in BTD5 as it can shred through a plethora of bloons.

The biggest issues with the Path 1 Mortar Tower is that it will not be able to detect Camo bloons and does not have the best reload speed, though this should not be enough to discourage a player from placing one.

Mortar Towers should be targeted on areas of a map where bloons will go at least twice, such as loops.

PATH 2 MORTAR TOWER

The Path 2 Mortar Tower is more of a support type of Tower, though it still deals a good amount of damage.

Not only will the Path 2 Mortar Tower place napalm on bloons, it will also reveal and damage Camo Bloons, meaning that players can rely on this Tower to allow other Towers to deal damage to Camo Bloons once they are revealed.

The Path 2 Mortar Tower also comes with an special ability that players can use to both stop bloons and MOAB-class bloons in their tracks also completely destroying lower tier bloons on screen.

The Ray of Doom deals more damage towards normal bloons though it can still provide a decent amount of support towards MOAB-class bloons, though notably less.

PATH 2 DARTLING GUN

The Path 2 Dartling Gun is less percise making it a bit weaker against regular types of bloons, though due to the fact that missiles are splayed, players will be able to deal more damage to MOAB-class bloons because they are being hit by multiple missiles.

The Path 2 Dartling Gun also has a very strong special ability that will essentially annihilate all bloons on the screen, minus bloons that are too powerful, though these can easily be cleared by the Dartling Gun’s basic attacks or other Towers.

The Path 2 Spike Factory is not only good at shredding MOAB-class bloons, but it also has a special ability that players can activate in order to cover their whole map with spikes that will provide players both support against more MOAB-class bloons but also regular bloons.

The nice thing about the Path 2 Spike Factory is it can be placed almost anywhere. on the map, though I recommend placing it closer to the beginning-middle of the map to ensure that MOAB class bloons are affected immediately as players can easily activate the special ability in order to defend against leaking bloons.

Path 2 Monkey Subs always have global range, though they do risk lower-class bloons leaking as they will not split up or deal as much damage directly towards them.

The Path 2 Monkey Sub comes with a special ability that players can activate in order to destroy a MOAB-class bloon in a single blow.

I would strongly recommend having a few of these if you want the most defense against MOAB-class bloons or simply Ceramic Bloons.

PATH 1 ENGINEER MONKEY

For players looking for a good way to deal damage and deal with Camo Bloons, Lead Bloons and Regen Bloons, especially if players have multiples of these Towers out.

I personally like to use multiple Engineer Monkeys near the beginning of a track to collect as much money as they can.

Players should be wary of placing Path 1 Engineer Monkeys too far back on a track as there. isa chance that no bloons will be collected in their traps, essentially destroying the chance of being able to collect any money.

If players do not collect the Bloon Trap it will auto-collect after some time, though giving less cash than they normally would have gotten.

PATH 2 ENGINEER MONKEY

Path 2 Engineer Monkeys are the best for supporting other Towers as it will raise the attack speed of the affected Tower, essentially being optimal when being used on Super Monkeys.

I would also recommend using these on Monkey Villages if players need Towers directly outside of it’s range to become empowered, being one of the best ways to upgrade multiple Towers at once.

SPECIALTY BUILDING

If players would like to upgrade the Bloonchipper using their Monkey Money they can do so by upgrading the Al’s Custom Chippers.

HOTKEY

The Tack Shooter can be placed quickly by using the letter “;”.

PATH 1 BLOONCHIPPER

The Path 1 Bloonchipper is by far one of the strongest Towers players can place. in all of BTD5 as it can essentially provide a player with complete support against MOAB-class bloons.

Path 1 Bloonchippers should always be put on “Strong” targeting as without that a player will essentially miss a bunch of MOAB-class bloons because it was too busy sucking up lower tier-bloons.

I usually use a Path 1 Bloonchipper as my main source of MOAB-class defences as it is extremely efficient and will buy a player enough time to destroy lower tier-bloons in the meantime.

A player does not necessarily need to upgrade a Path 1 Bloonchipper with Camo detection unless they are worried about DDTs.

$4,860

IMPOPPABLE

$5,400

ABOUT SUPER WIDE FUNNEL

Upon upgrading a Bloonchipper with Super Wide Funnel, the Bloonchipper will gain the ability to suck up and shred MOAB-class bloons.

MOAB-class bloons will be absorbed for 3 seconds, dealing 500 damage to them before spitting them out.

The Super Wide Funnel is one of the strongest upgrades players can ever use as it will affect all MOAB-class bloons including ZOMGs.

This Tower should always be set to “Strong” targeting as it will ensure that only MOAB-class bloons are focussed on instead of having them avoided.

PATH 2 BLOONCHIPPER

The Path 2 Bloonchipper is a very strong Tower to place as it can essentially be used to absorb any lower tier bloons quickly.

The Path 2 Bloonchipper can be paired with lots of rapid damage dealing Towers such as the Tack Shooter in order to ensure that bloons are destroyed before they leak.

I would strongly recommend giving the Bloonchipper and the Towers around it Camo detection by using a Monkey Village as this will ensure that all bloon types can be destroyed, especially if the player has enough damage dealing Towers with AoE around it.

By far a Path 2 Bloonchipper is one of the best supportive Towers players can use as it can essentially make it so Towers can attack bloons multiple times.
